Habitat for Humanity of Sonoma County is building a four-home development in the heart of Sebastopol. All four of these homes are designated as affordable housing.
Home and lot dimensions and features:
- Four 3 bedroom, 2 bath, 1350 square feet homes.
- The 1st floor bath will be handicap accessible.
- Lot sizes are approximately 1,500 square feet.
- The homes will be attached, with detached single car garages, a covered entry porch and a rear patio.
- All the homes are two stories along the street frontage.
These homes are located within a half mile of the Sebastopol Plaza, business district, parks, outdoor events, and farmers market as well as multiple school locations, public transportation, grocery stores and retail shops. It is an excellent location for families seeking stability, shelter, and the sense of belonging to a community.
Update 11/12/25
Big things are happening at Blankenship Place in Sebastopol!
Since October, our construction teams have completed underslab plumbing and poured the foundation slab, and this week we’ve hit a thrilling milestone: framing of the walls is underway. You can literally start to see the homes coming to life as the structure rises, a truly exciting moment for the families and everyone involved!
Looking ahead, there’s plenty more progress on the horizon:
- Exterior finishes kick off in late November, giving the buildings their first real look
- Rough-in plumbing, HVAC and electrical work will also be starting this winter, where we’ll be preparing the homes for essential systems
- Roofing is scheduled for early January, a major milestone that will top off the structures and make them feel like real homes
Every week brings new visible progress, and it’s incredible to see the homes taking shape. Thanks to the hard work of our construction teams and the support of our community, Blankenship Place is moving closer to completion.

Update 9/12/25
Things are buzzing at Blankenship Place! Over the past few weeks, homeowners, volunteers, and corporate partners have been hard at work raising the first structures on site. Together, we built a 70-foot retaining wall at the back of the lot and are now midway through a new fence along the property line.
A big shoutout to the North Bay Association of Realtors (NorBAR), who spent three full days with us—staking posts, mixing concrete, leveling ground, and even lending a hand at our ReStore. Their work sanding and refurbishing furniture boosts sales, with proceeds flowing right back into this build.
It’s been inspiring to welcome our first wave of corporate volunteers, whose energy is already making a big impact. For community volunteers, we’ll be opening construction opportunities on the build in early 2026 and will share details by the end of 2025. Stay tuned!
Update 6/26/25
Big News! We’ve been selected as one of the five Habitat affiliates in California to receive a $50,000 grant from Pacific Gas and Electric Company through their new Connecting Hometowns partnership with Habitat for Humanity California!
This support, plus the dedication of volunteers from PG&E, is helping us build more affordable homes in partnership with families right here in Sonoma County.
On June 26, selected future homeowners (in purple) of Blankenship Place rolled up their sleeves and worked side by side with Pacific Gas and Electric Company volunteers! Habitat for Humanity California is proud to partner with PG&E through their Connecting Hometowns initiative, helping bring affordable housing to life.

Update 5/1/25
On May 1st, Habitat for Humanity of Sonoma County welcomed 56 guests to the Blankenship Place groundbreaking ceremony in Sebastopol. The event brought together community leaders, supporters, and future homeowners to celebrate the start of this transformative housing project.
Among the distinguished attendees were City of Sebastopol Mayor Stephen Zollman, Councilmembers Phill Carter and Neysa Hinton, as well as Acting City Manager/Assistant City Manager/City Clerk Mary Gourley. Habitat board members, staff, volunteers, and local residents joined in the celebration to meet the four families selected as future Habitat homeowners.
Habitat recognized the many build partners who are making Blankenship Place a reality, including the City of Sebastopol, Coar Design Group, Ray Carlson & Associates, M.K.B. Construction, BC Engineering Group, Collins and Son Construction, 5th Generation Painting, Creative Roofing, Robert & Shirley Harris Foundation, E.C. Meilicke Foundation, and Don Yoder Foundation. Special thanks went to the event sponsor Poppy Bank.
A highlight of the day was the ceremonial groundbreaking featuring 11 gleaming gold shovels—one of them Jack Blankenship’s, a treasured symbol from many previous Habitat projects. The ceremony marked not just the start of construction but the beginning of a new chapter for families and the Sebastopol community alike.
Jack, “Mr. Habitat,” and Phyllis Blankenship dedicated over 25+ years of volunteer service to help low-income working families build their lives in homes of their own. Growing up, Jack lived without the certainty of a safe home, so he spent his entire life ensuring others did not go without. Building homes side by side with partner families, Jack and Phyllis established deep and lasting friendships. In 2001, Jack started the local Habitat ReStore in his garage with proceeds going towards Habitat programs. He served as the Chair of the Habitat Board and in many other board positions over many years. He was also a long-standing member of the homeowner selection committee and headed the annual Golf Tournament fundraiser. There are countless other ways that he and Phyllis supported Habitat and the families that we serve. Sadly, we lost Jack in 2021 and Phyllis in 2022. They will always be a part of the Habitat for Humanity of Sonoma County/ReStore family. What better way to honor their love, friendship, determination, and memory than naming Blankenship Place in their honor.

We’re happy to share, within the next couple of months the Blankenship Place townhomes construction will begin.

We are grateful for the support of the City of Sebastopol Council members and the city staff for their hard work in continuing to advance our four-home, affordable housing development, Blankenship Place. At the February 18th City Council meeting, council members approved the final parcel map for Blankenship Place.
